Policies & statements

ALL new clients must physically come to the clinic for their intake appointment, due to the nature of the training clinic and to ensure client wellbeing. We ask clients to commit to weekly therapy sessions. This model allows client therapy goals to be most effectively achieved, and it allows our students to obtain the training they need for licensure.

The Office of Applied Psychological Services does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, religion, national origin, ethnic background, ancestry, age, marital status, disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity.

UIC’s OAPS clinic is committed to centering anti-oppressive practices in our approach to client care and training. As part of the OAPS team, we encourage self-reflection, open discussion, and education about the privilege we, as clinicians, hold and how this privilege may impact the treatment process and our clients’ experiences. We acknowledge that the field of psychology and mental health care interventions have often been designed by and for people in the majority who hold power. There is much work our field must do to repair the impacts of injustice and oppression on our clients and community. While we hopethese values are embedded in our daily actions, we also know that upholding these values takes thoughtful attention, self- awareness, ongoing reflection, and actionable steps.
