Why OAPS?
Introduction
OAPS is unique in that we utilize evidence-based practices, which are offered on a sliding-scale fee model at a transit-accessible location.
We use evidence-based practices (EBPs)
Evidence-based practices (EBPs) use well-researched therapy approaches and skills that have shown to help lots of people with different mental health challenges. Therapists use the evidence-based practices and tailor them to each client to make sure individual goals and needs are met.
EBPs are different from talk therapy in their use of research validated protocols or manuals to guide therapy sessions. Talk therapy often may not use these practices, instead creating a space for the client to talk through their concerns with the clinician in a less structured manner.
Why does the use of EBPs matter?
There are many different approaches to therapy, only some of which have been researched. Often, these therapies with demonstrated efficacy are standardized, meaning the therapy is structured to support skill building or changing habits. At OAPS, we use EBPs to guide each client in helping them to meet their goals. We are client-centered at our core, infusing these values of compassion and collaboration when using EBPs in therapy.
We offer a sliding-scale model for fee payment
Therapy and assessment can be expensive, even when insurance covers a portion of the cost. For those with limited or no insurance, paying out of pocket may not always be an option. We strive to make our services as accessible as possible using a sliding scale based on a client’s household size and income. Our scale extends from $15 to $50 per session for therapy and from $400-850 for assessment (covering all appointments with one fee). If you are a UIC student, you qualify for $15 therapy sessions and $400 assessment.
You can find the details of our sliding-scale fee structure here.
