Therapy
Introduction
The first step of the therapy process is an intake, where the intake clinician gathers childhood, family, medical, and psychiatric history to get a picture of what the client is currently experiencing. The clinic will reach out to the client in the following days with information about scheduling if the client deems OAPS to be a good fit for their needs. A client may also be referred out to another clinic if the client’s needs are not in line with what OAPS can provide. A client may also be placed on a waitlist for therapy depending on clinician capacity. We keep our waitlist estimates updated on this page.
Our therapy appointments are scheduled for weekly, 1-hour sessions over the course of a few months (often 4-6mos). Our goal is to graduate clients, rather than provide long-term, supportive care. OAPS clinicians may use manualized treatments for therapy, infused with person-centered flexibility and responsiveness. The manualized treatments offer structure to build skills and support behavior change, sometimes using homework, for example. We also use questionnaires throughout the therapy process to measure progress on the presenting concern and changes in the therapeutic relationship. This allows us to make sure we are providing our clients with care that properly addresses their concerns.
